Biography
Mel Gragirena was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. After failed attempts in careers as a stand-up comedian, magazine editor, bouncer and sheepherder, Mel realized his true talent and passion came only when a tool was in hand; an obvious choice for the product of Catholic high school and UCLA. This lead to several years as a high-end carpenter followed by a transition into the world of art fabrication.
Today, Mel works for Barnacle Brothers in Los Angeles, CA. He's played a major role in the fabrication of sculptures and furniture for such artists as Mike Kelley, Shepard Fairey, Dita Von Teese, Andrea Zittel, and Judd Fine, as well as many others. Mel's work can also be seen in several commercials, including the "White Gold is White Gold" milk campaign and many feature films.
